Prospects for the Russian Steel Export
The 19th Annual Russian and CIS Metals Summit was held on February 11-13 in Moscow. At the summit, the representative of Metal Expert Consulting presented the report "Prospects for the Russian Steel Export "
Key issues of the report:
- Despite the growth of consumption in CIS, steel output keeps decreasing. The main reason – low competitiveness in export markets;
- At the same time, steel product capacities continue to expand – in Russia alone, longs capacities amounted to 2.9 mt in 2013, another 1.7 mt will be added in 2014;
- The only import-dependent segment in Russia is coated flat products, where the imbalance of production and consumption is expected to increase by 2020;
- Europe and MENA remain the key export markets for Russian steel product suppliers.
